The US Open – Which Players are Driving the Social Conversation?
With the U.S. Open underway and fans cheering and jeering players online, we decided to launch a real-time online leaderboard to track the social media buzz of all the players to see if their popularity online corresponds to their success on the court.
We wanted to find out exactly how much social media buzz the players are generating – and if their popularity on the court determines their popularity online. After taking a look at our data on the first couple of days in, it’s clear that the top seeded players are top seeded on social media, as well.
Our real-time leaderboard uses the same criteria for the duration of the U.S. Open, August 26 – September 9, 2013. The data is updated every 15 minutes and includes the number of mentions each player has received as well the sentiment of the mentions by percentage of positive, negative and neutral.
Here’s a look at the top 10 players so far. To keep tabs on who’s taking the social media lead throughout the tournament, follow our real-time leaderboard.
