U.S. Open Seeding vs. Social Media Seeding
Synthesio Launches U.S. Open Real-Time Social Media Leaderboard, Tracking Online Popularity of Players Throughout Tournament New York, NY (August 27, 2013) – With the U.S Open underway and fans cheering and jeering players online, global social media monitoring leader, Synthesio, has launched a real-time online leaderboard to track the social media buzz of all the players to see if their popularity online corresponds to their success on the court. To determine their pre-U.S. Open ‘Social Media Seed,’ Synthesio compiled the number of “Player Name” plus “U.S. Open” mentions across all global, English-language social media channels such as Twitter, Facebook, blogs, forums, etc. over the 30 days leading up to the tournament. The Top 10 in both Women’s and Men’s is listed below. Synthesio’s real-time leaderboard (http://synthesio.com/us-open/) uses the same criteria for the duration of the U.S. Open, August 26 – September 9, 2103. The data is updated every 15 minutes and includes the number of mentions each player has received as well the sentiment of the mentions by percentage of positive, negative and neutral. “We are curious how enthusiastic the public is about the players and to see if their popularity on the court determines their popularity online,” said Loic Moisand, founder and CEO of Synthesio. “Our initial data finds this to be true, and we are excited to see how it plays out throughout the tournament, especially if there is an upset like with Maria Sharapova, who has withdrawn from the tournament, but goes into at #1 online.”
