With hundreds of thousands of tweets heralding the release of “Avengers: Age of Ultron” last weekend, who did audiences talk about the most? Just how much did they really like the new, big, bad Ultron? And who's the most popular Avenger?

The folks over at Synthesio tallied social media conversation from around the Internet from last Wednesday through Monday. Using data from professional media outlets, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube as well as international platforms like vKontakte, Maktub and Youku, the group has compiled a list of the most popular of Earth’s mightiest heroes and the villains they meet in the latest Marvel movie.

Here are a few of their latest findings:

Captain America (Chris Evans) was the favorite Avenger both worldwide and in the U.S., appearing in 18.7 percent of online conversation. The patriotic supersoldier was also the last Avenger to have a movie in theaters in 2014, “Captain America: Winter Soldier.” Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) was the second-ranking Avenger in social media presence both globally and domestically.

The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) trumped Thor (Chris Hemsworth) in the worldwide online conversations about “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” In North America, Black Widow (Scarlet Johansson) was the next most talked-about Avenger, but she trades places with the Norse god of thunder in European and global stats. Despite the background added to his character, social media didn’t have much to say about Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner). The Avenger archer appeared in only 8 to 9 percent of online talk.

Interestingly enough, although Tony Stark is depicted as a feared figure in a European country in “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Iron Man is Europe’s most talked-about Avenger. Stark edges out Captain America in European online conversations by just a few percentage points, 18.6 to Captain's 16 percent. Both Colonel Rhodes/Iron Patriot (Don Cheadle) and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) held the lowest scores in the rankings, but they were among the characters with the least screen time.

The numbers crunched also shows a surprising amount of support for Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson). In North American and global sectors, the new villain dominated the conversation over Ultron (James Spader), who seemed to take over only the European market. Sorry, Spader. Although Loki (Tom Hiddleston) was nowhere to be found in “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” he still cropped up in more than 9 percent of the global conversation centered on the baddies.

Most tweets about the new Joss Whedon “Avengers” movie gained favorable attention on social media, with about 25.5 percent of online conversation being positive. Only about 8.8 percent of the conversation surrounding “Avengers: Age of Ultron” was negative. About 36.2 percent of all online conversation came from the North American region.
