With so much hype surrounding it, the news of E3 2017 being dominated by Microsoft and the Xbox One X reveal will not come as much surprise.

Social-networking analysts Synthesio has provided more understanding on just what was being talked about during the LA expo and it appears Microsoft and Nintendo were top performers.

According to their observations, gamers were talking about both companies the most, with Microsoft picking up 25.33 percent of all online mentions, Nintendo second with 24.11 percent.

The difference between the subject were quite different though and really emphasises the differences the rest of the year will focus on for both tech giants.

As you can imagine, Microsoft were building as much hype as possible around the Xbox One X, which dominated the discussions surrounding the company online.

The Xbox One X made up 71.42 percent of all Microsoft mentions, followed by Forza (9.61 percent), Sea of Thieves (7.94 percent), Gears of War (6.18 percent) and Halo (1.88 percent).

Meanwhile, Nintendo’s online chatter was much more balanced between what they were showing off.

The Nintendo Switch was top but only by a little, with 33.91 percent of all Nintendo mentions being about the hybrid console.

That’s followed by Super Mario Odyssey (32.61 percent), Metroid (10.37 percent), Splatoon 2 (5.87 percent) and Mario + Rabbids (5.66 percent).

And it proves quite telling that Super Mario Odyssey was only marginally beaten by the Nintendo Switch itself, highlighting the game’s importance to the console later this year.

The E3 2017 games lineup seemed to please the actual organisers of the event itself, who highlighted the impact made by the general public being able to buy tickets this year.

A total of 68,400 people attended E3 2017 and millions more around the world watched the week's events online, according to the Entertainment Software Association (ESA).

More than 2,000 products were showcased by 293 exhibitors, including more than 120 exhibitors with virtual reality products.

"E3 2017 was a huge success. The advancements in technology unveiled at E3 will redefine and drive worldwide growth of the most meaningful form of entertainment on the planet," said Michael D. Gallagher, president and CEO of ESA, the trade association that represents the US video game industry and owner of E3.

"Congratulations to our innovative exhibitors, members, and partners and to the millions of gamers who celebrated a spectacular E3 with us."
