Artists take into account past top summer songs when creating their own in hopes to steal this year’s title. We analyzed the Billboard’s top 10 tracks to predict what will be this year’s song of the summer. Billboard currently ranks Sad! by XXXTENTACION as number one followed by I Like It by Cardi B, Bad Bunny & J Balvin; Nice For What by Drake; Lucid Dreams by Juice WRLD; Girls Like You by Maroon 5 featuring Cardi B; Psycho by Post Malone featuring Ty Dolla $ign; Boo’d Up by Ella Mai; God’s Plan by Drake; No Tears Left To Cry by Ariana Grande; and The Middle by Zedd, Maren Morris & Grey respectively.

Top Summer Songs Media Type

Social media listening companies can use media type to analyze which social outlets are being used the most to talk about their topic. We used media type to get a better understanding of the audience creating chatter around Billboard’s top 10 songs.


We found that Twitter holds the most influence with 49.72% share of voice. Forums are another significant source of conversation with 21.01% followed by blogs with 16.94% and YouTube at 10.27%. Popular forums include Kanye West Forum, Pulse Music Board, and Phook Forum. Favored blogs include Rap-Up.com and LATF USA.

As we know, social media carries a lot of influence. We looked at the top three influencers around these summer songs to see the social clout they carry. The top three influencers are @UTRILLME, @djpee521, and @choc54.
